It is recommended that 50% of the course activities involve live online collaboration. This motivates students by providing the opportunity to practice their language skills through authentic communication. Discussions are focused on negotiating decisions and intercultural awareness. Students seemed to prefer Skype meetings more than other forms of chat or forum discussions.
Negotiation and collaboration is done using samples of polite language provided by the partnership of developed together with the students during the Office InterActors course. This excercise of working together with international teams has helped them understand the importance of being well equiped in all aspects and not only that of field specificity.
Participants in the first round of piloting stated they would have wanted to have as much online synchronous commication as possible. For this purpose, course international schedule needs to be very well planned prior the beginning of the course to assure a smooth communication channel with all international teams.
Even though international synchonous collaboration can turn out to be more difficult to implement than to plan, still there are always ways of finding online collaborators with the course team. Students themselves are willing to spend more time within the course jsut to be part of this "live" international collaboration
